Toyotas just wont do it in India. They are just forcing Indians to buy the Innova by not introducing another vehicle. One can expect another vehicle from Toyotas in india when the mahindra “inginio” and another MPV from TATA comes out on road.

Ray, Toyota have a huge car line up, i wonder why dont they use it. Its not that they have t develop a car from scratch, all they need to do is decide on a vehicle. I agree once Ingenio and the New Tata MUV comes then Toyota will feel the heat. And while we are on this topic, did you see this post of the Ingenio caught testing. http://thecarsandmore.blogspot.com/2008/03/spotted-mahindra-ingenio.html

I agree with you that Toyotas just have to choose a model and introduce in Indian market with suitable modifications for Indian roads. But how long we have to wait for that.I feel their strategy is wrong by keeping a single model till it dies out like what happened to the ‘Qualis”.Or do they think that “these Indians need only this much”.I have seen your INGENIO scoop few days back. Thanks for posting the DZIRE test report.I didnt have any hesitation to decide on that and have booked one “ZDI”.So For me noe Toyota & honda is out of question for the next few years unless they bring out a diesel SUV with auto transmission for 12-13 lakhs.Any nes about SCORPIO automatic.

i think its a matter of logistics. no production capacity/budget to handle anything more than an innova. importing is also very expensive and it just doesnt make sense to buy an expensive rav4.

Ray, I think Toyota’s current focus is on the new Corolla then the Fortuner which will be overprice by a good 6-7Lacs. They also plan to get a small car. They should learn something from Maruti who are very fast in launching cars and also good cars. Good decision on the DZire, its a fantastic car and the issues of harsh ride in the sibling have been eliminated in the sedan. Get it and if you need more horse power, you can install a tunning box.
Also i have got inside news they plan to phase out Innova in 2010 and get a new model. Just like what they did with the Qualis.
Mahindra do have a automatic Scorpio on the cards but no concrete news yet, they are concentrating on the Ingenio.
Honda and Toyota take Indian customers for a royal ride, there is no news of any auto SUV in 12-13L segment, the closest to that specification is the Grand Vitara which is a fantastic car, but a petrol.
Ed, its not sensible to import, but they should localise the car and launch it. The Camry is imported and is highly overpriced.

Isnt it great for the Marutis to sell more than 5500 Dzires in just 17 days.Others should learn a lesson from that.I have to wait for about 40 days to get the delivery of my Dzire as per the promise by the dealer at Trivandrum. But still like to retain my 2000 Indica ,80000 Km in odo and still good ,till the V3 or an Auto Scorpio comes out.A token as my loyality to Indian car.

The Indica V3 is coming soon, it will have the Fiat engine used in the Palio 1.3 and Swift DDIS.
Maruti is simply Maruti, no one can match them yet, no other manufacturer can have 5500 bookings done in just 17 days.
40 days waiting is not much, considering 6 months waiting for the Swift Diesel when it was intially launched.
