Ferrari Phone

in Ferrari

ferrari m 2 copy photoMotorola recently announced the availability of its latest Ferrari-branded cell phone based on the RAZR2 V9. If your a Ferrari fan like me, you will be, well disappointed as this has no turbocharger or V8 machinery in it. All that is different are the Ferrari logos, ring tones and a Ferrari case.

Singapore will receive this phone before other countries with the RAZR2 V9 Ferrari Special Edition being available exclusively to SingTel subscribers (Simply because the 2008 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix is sponsored by SingTel). At the price it sells, its not worth it, even with the Ferrari logo attached.

History Of Suzuki Motor Company

by Faisal June 25, 2008

in Maruti Suzuki

suzuki logo1 photoIn 1909, Michio Suzuki founded the Suzuki Loom Company in the small seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Japan. Business boomed as Suzuki built weaving looms for Japan’s giant silk industry. Suzuki’s only desire was to build better, more user-friendly looms. For the first 30 years of the company’s existence, its focus was on the development and production of these exceptionally complex machines.

Despite the success of his looms, Suzuki realized his company had to diversify and he began to look at other products. Based on consumer demand, he decided that building a small car would be the most practical new venture. The project began in 1937, and within two years Suzuki had completed several compact prototype cars. These first Suzuki motor vehicles were powered by a then-innovative, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine. It featured a cast aluminum crankcase and gearbox and generated 13 horsepower from a displacement of less than 800cc.

With the onset of World War II, production plans for Suzuki’s new vehicles were halted when the government declared civilian passenger cars a “non-essential commodity.” At the conclusion of the war, Suzuki went back to producing looms. Loom production was given a boost when the U.S. government approved the shipping of cotton to Japan. Suzuki’s fortunes brightened as orders began to increase from domestic textile manufacturers. But the joy was short-lived as the cotton market collapsed in 1951.

Faced with this colossal challenge, Suzuki’s thoughts went back to motor vehicles. After the war, the Japanese had a great need for affordable, reliable personal transportation. A number of firms began offering “clip-on” gas-powered engines that could be attached to the typical bicycle. Suzuki’s first two-wheel effort came in the form of a motorized bicycle called, the “Power Free.” Designed to be inexpensive and simple to build and maintain, the 1952 Power Free featured a 36cc two-stroke engine. An unprecedented feature was the double-sprocket gear system, enabling the rider to either pedal with the engine assisting, pedal without engine assist, or simply disconnect the pedals and run on engine power alone. The system was so ingenious that the patent office of the new democratic government granted Suzuki a financial subsidy to continue research in motorcycle engineering. And so was born Suzuki Motor Corporation.

In 1953, Suzuki scored the first of countless racing victories when the tiny 60cc “Diamond Free” won its class in the Mount Fuji Hill Climb.

By 1954, Suzuki was producing 6,000 motorcycles per month and had officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. Following the success of its first motorcycles, Suzuki created an even more successful automobile: the 1955 “Suzulight.” Suzuki showcased its penchant for innovation from the beginning. The Suzulight included front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension and rack-and-pinion steering — features common on cars half a century later.

Jet Powered Beetle

in Volkswagen Beetle

VW+Beetle+fire+exhaust photo
The Bugatti Veyron weighs quite alot, has 1000bhp at its disposal and is pretty fast. Now imagine a car weighing half of the Veyron and having more power. Well this VW has a GE Model T58-8F helicopter turboshaft engine producing 1350bhp. This engine idles at a mind blowing 13,000RPM and spins all the way to a mind boggling 26,000RPM.

And guess what, this car is street legal, thanks to the dual engines, one in the front and one in the back. The owner says he wanted the wildest street legal ride possible and he has got it.

Ford Fiesta 1.6S Test Drive

by Faisal June 23, 2008

in Ford Fiesta

 photo
We drove the new Fiesta 1.6S for a short distance, and we are really impressed. Ford have done a fantastic job by making the boring look Fiesta look so good in the form of the Fiesta 1.6S. photo photoThis car looks stunning and more so in Aquarius blue. The interiors have also been upgraded and are more sporty with well contoured seats and aluminium pedals. The quality of the interiors is good. ABS, EBD, front driver and passenger airbag is part of standard equipment, a good thing.

The new S version of the Fiesta does handle slightly better thanks to the wider tires and bigger 15 inch wheels. Ford have also worked on the suspension setup and it shows, with the ride being as good as the older version on lower profile rubber. The engine performance is the same as before and there are no changes in the engine which produces the same 101PS but with slight bit of tunning to give better fuel efficiency. The gearbox and brakes are same as before ie. good enough. Feedback from the steering is positive and it turns directions sharply. But what is most impressive about the new Fiesta 1.6S is the way it sounds, and it sounds absolutely fantabolous. If you buy this car, dont expect to get good mileage figures, for often you would be revving just to hear that snarl.

To sum up, the new Fiesta retains all the positives of the old one but is more appealing to the heart as much as its to the head and dare i say, its as much fun to drive as the Old Honda City Vtec.
