Maruti Suzuki will launch a more powerful version of the Alto dubbed the Alto K10 in the first week of August. The Alto K10 will be priced Rs. 30,000/- more than its 800cc sibling and is based on the same platform as the existing Alto (the F8). Mechanically both the cars are same except the K10 gets re-tuned suspension, new cable type transmission for smoother gear shifts and booster assisted braking system. The major change is the all new K10 engine which already does duty in the Maruti A-star, Estilo and Wagon R. The K-Series motor produces 68PS of maximum power at 6200 Rpm and 90Nm of maximum torque at 3500 Rpm. The current 800cc Alto produces just 47PS. The Alto K10 is 50 kgs heavier and reaches 100kmph in 13.3 seconds as opposed to 17.3 seconds by the 800cc Alto. Mileage of Alto K10 is 20.2 kmpl as per ARAI.

The K10 Alto is 125mm longer to accommodate the new engine and features a dynamic hood, eagle eyed clear lens headlamps, fog lamps and body coloured bumpers. The side profile remains largely unchanged except for the 13″ inch wheels with wheel covers and body side mouldings. The rear gets a new designed back door and fresh tail lamps. The interior now gets two tone treatment with 3-spoke steering wheel from the A-star. The instrument panel is refreshed with amber illuminated speedometer, tachometer and an electronic trip-meter and the front and rear passengers get integrated headrests.

Features in the Alto K10 include power steering, internally adjustable ORVM, key reminder, remote boot opener (reminds you if you left the key in the lock itself), central locking, power windows, rear parcel tray, accessory socket, remote fuel lid opener and electronic trip meter. To be launched in two variants – Alto K10 LXi and Alto K10 VXi, the car will be available in six colours – Ecru Beige, Midnight Black, Fire Brick Red, Sunlight Copper, Silky Silver and Superior White.
