Ford recently concluded the media drive for the all new Fiesta in Bangalore. The company has now kicked off production of the 2011 Fiesta sedan at its manufacturing facility in Maraimalai Nagar, Chennai. The 1,72,175 sq. ft. plant is the sixth in the world to produce the Fiesta. Ford manufactures the new Fiesta in Thailand, China, Mexico, Spain and Germany. The aforementioned production site will also manufacture the 1.5 liter TI-VCT petrol and TDCi diesel engines, which power the new Fiesta. Ford has sold more than 1 million units of this generation of Fiesta cars across the world.

“We are thrilled to see Ford’s latest world-class premium sedan rolling off the Chennai assembly line, continuing India’s emergence as a regional manufacturing hub for Ford. We are committed to growing our operations in Tamil Nadu and bringing new products to India in the coming years,” Michael Boneham, president and MD, Ford India, said.

Ford will introduce the new Fiesta in July this year and will price it between Rs. 8-10 lakhs (ex-showroom). Initially only manual variants will be available but the American automaker plans to launch automatic variants of the new Fiesta in due course of time. The new Fiesta is said to be the first of the eight global Ford models to be launched in India by 2015.
