It is no secret that Bajaj Auto is working on more powerful Pulsars, which will be launched in 2013. The company is planing to take the Pulsar franchise to an all new level by launching more powerful variants. Currently the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is the most talked about bike, so we can only wonder what will happen when Bajaj launches other more powerful Pulsar motorcycles, with even more power and better performance levels.

Initially talks about a Pulsar 350 cc were doing the rounds, but now after we got hold of a leaked audio tape, we are able to give you the exact details on the upcoming Pulsar variant. Bajaj Auto is planing to set the performance motorcycle segment on an even bigger fire with the launch of the Pulsar 400. The Pulsar 400 will be launched in 2013 and will carry a sub Rs. 1.50 lakhs on-road price (Pune). It will look very similar to the Pulsar 200 NS and will share most of the parts with it.

“We keep working on new motorcycles all the time. Its too premature to reveal details on future Pulsars but yes we are working on a new V-twin engine, which will debut soon. We can’t say much at this moment except that one can expect 600 cc performance for 250 cc price.” a Bajaj employee told us on the condition of anonymity.

The surprising part is the engine configuration, which is the current Pulsar 200 NS engine but there are two such motors, which are aligned together in a V-twin position to give a displacement of 400 cc. The angle of this motor is 90 degrees and results in a significant performance oriented machine. This 8-valve, six-spark plug engine produces 44 BHP of peak power at 8000 RPM and 33 Nm of peak torque at 6000 RPM. Due to the V-twin nature, Bajaj Auto has decided to restrict the engine revvs to 8500 RPM. A top speed of 180 km/h is expected, while mileage will be between 25 – 30 km/l.

Bajaj Auto is banking heavily on the dormant 400 cc segment to boost sales of the Pulsar range of bikes. By using the same engine as the Pulsar 200 NS, the company is saving huge amounts in terms of R&D costs. But the V-twin engine alone does not account for the increase in price as the Pulsar 400 also features bigger disc brakes all around. With a 0 – 100 km/h under 7 seconds, the Bajaj Pulsar is all set to reclaim its fastest Indian tag.
