Mahindra XUV 500 - Front

Mahindra is quietly started accepting new bookings for the XUV500. The Indian utility major is taking bookings from unsuccessful draw applicants for the XUV500 and plans to deliver the vehicles in the next lot. The XUV500’s demand far exceed its supply and Mahindra is working hard on delivering the XUV500 to customers as quick as they can. The company has increased production from 2000 units a month to 3000 units a month to ensure quicker deliveries and less waiting period for prospective customers. With the initial enthusiasm around the product gradually declining, has Mahindra made a mistake by not scaling up production faster!

The Mahindra XUV500 is powered by a 2179 cc, mhawk 140 diesel engine which produces 140 BHP of peak power at 3750 RPM and 330 Nm of peak torque at 1600 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, which is not the best cog shifting mechanism around. The XUV500 has no real competition as the vehicle is positioned as an SUV, while Tata positions the Aria as a crossover. The XUV500 will soon be facing tough competition from new products including the Tata Safari Storme, Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport. The Mahindra XUV500 is too a 5-seater of sorts as the last row is best suited for children. This means that the 5-seater compact SUVs from Renault and Ford have a formidable chance of uprooting the XUV500 from its high demand position.
