Pulsar 200 NS Initial Impressions

Bajaj Auto recently launched the all new Pulsar 200 NS, priced at Rs. 99,200/- (on-road, Mumbai). Although the company has not made any official announcements, most dealers have received the motorcycle and are offering test rides and taking bookings. We took a small test ride of the Pulsar 200 NS to pen down our initial impressions of the most awaited bike of the year. The Pulsar 200 NS is sure to command a waiting period soon as enthusiasts and Pulsar fans have been waiting for it since the very day it was unveiled earlier this year.

Ergonomics – Handle bars are wide and seating position is comfortable. It’s a bit lower than the KTM Duke 200 but almost the same. You no longer stick to the tank like a sticker, loads of space for your inner thigh’s and sufficient space for even very big riders because the rider’s seat is very wide and long enough to suit almost any kind of rider. Pillion seat is comfortable but bit stiff which is still manageable. Placement of the foot pegs is perfect for comfortable long rides.

Refinement – You can smell refinement as early as when you push the starter button. The Pulsar 200 NS has smooth soft idling, revving is very smooth and isn’t audible up to almost 4000 RPM (may be because the bike had 400 kms on the odo?). Rev friendly motor redlines with ease, no drama no coarse note at top-end, no chain noise either.

Performance and Handling – No more heavy feeling at the front, easy to maneuver in tight lanes despite long wheelbase, very small turning radius. Feels light, sharp and agile. Engines feels very tractable. Bottom end torque is mediocre, enough to make it easy for the rider to manage in the tight area’s. Off the line performance hasn’t taken a bite though, very very fast in straight line. The petal brakes are superb, more than enough to stop a bike this fast, rear brake effective too. Duke 200 like exhaust note, but on a softer note. Can’t go into much details about the handling or performance due to the short test ride but the Pulsar 200 NS seems to lean effortlessly.

Overall Bajaj Auto does have a winner on its hands and the Pulsar 200 NS is going to set the sales chart on fire for the company. The leap from the Pulsar 220 to the Pulsar 200 NS is massive one and one can’t really say if both bikes have anything common in them, other than the name of-course. With just Rs. 6500/- difference between the P220F and P200 NS, the latest Bajaj motorcycles seems like a steal.

      Thanks Faisal. I guess the black colour is lacking that attention in the snaps, not sure how the experience will be face to face. The red was looking stunning because it kind of differentiates various parts.

      Rajan, also the red looked stunning because it was a display bike, which was polished immaculately. The test ride bikes usually become dirty as they are parked outside and used frequently.

    @Fas : The production model looks dull compared to the Launch pics.

    I am quiet disappointed as the bike looks more like a bigger P135 and nothing more.

    Since you have seen the bike in real…… what do you think ? I am speaking only about the looks.

    well i have seen the bike in person and it looks better paint job is better and nick and nacks have been fixed u need to see it real and bright colours to believe the hardcore & aggressive naked streetfighter looks!

    Bro what about the tyres, is it MRF Zappers or TVS branded one??

      hi guddu those are eurogrip tyres, they are as good as the mrf which we see on other pulsars but i think they are not known for traction in wet.we suggest when you take this bike ask for mrf or else get it changed to pirelli or soft compound mrf from tire shops

      @mike i dont think there is hardly any change in production model from the model which was showcased at the unveiling,only the paint job is better which as usual is quite deep . This was short test drive,we cant comment on performance but i did manage a small 0-70-80 drag and it was way fast and stable,wait for the full review detailed review.and yes we try our best to reply asap!

      @Mohit : Well… thats exactly what I am talking about – THE PAINT JOB. The difference in the paint job, although minor, it has such drastic impact. Maybe ….. it looks so different due to the Mobile snaps.

      Mike, I feel the model they showcased at the unveil was looking better because the body was polished thoroughly and the lights give it a good appearance. The bike arrived at the dealer is usually not so clean.

    Guys, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but on every photo of the production model I’ve found the center stand is missing, now that is quite bad, at least for me since it means having it really hard to tighten the chain slack and lubing it, can someone who has actually seen the bike in person confirm if the center stand is missing?

      Yes Kashif, you can go for it. Mileage is around 40 km/l and price is around 85-90k (ex-showroow, depending on State).

    I have seen this bike in detail alongwith ktm duke 200. And trust me, this bike doesn’t have an aura of 1L bike, nor is it any sort of head turner either. The old p220 looked real different, this 200ns one looks more like p135 :P, especially from rear. I am 6.2″ & didn’t find this bike much likeable. Looking for CBR 250/150 but it is not that value for money bike. Misses even pass headlight switch :/. Really confused.

    hello faisal….i have owned this bike for six months now. am 5’5″ and weigh 55 kgs. recently i got the center stand fitted to it. but i fear when i try putting my bike on center stand that i might not be able to control it from toppling over to the other side.can you please help me on how to put my bike on and off the center stand keeping my height (in particular) in mind.

      the reason is that my friends have told me that while cleaning the bike,lubricating its chain when i am alone i can do it easily wen the bike is on center stand.moreover its more comfortable to sit on it when the bike is on center stand.pl help.
