2012 Bajaj Discover Sports Tourer

Bajaj Auto has announced that it would launch a bike which will be the most technologically advanced one in the 100cc category. It would also be the most expensive bike in this category. However, the company management has stressed upon the fact that it would be the most superior motorcycle in terms of the technology and the pricing is just a secondary thing. Though it is going to be the most expensive in its segment, the company officials have given no hint on the price tag.

“Besides being the most expensive motorcycle in the 100cc segment, it will also be technologically most advanced bike,” Mr. K. Srinivas, President, Bajaj Auto, said.

Currently, the company sells only two brands in the 100cc category namely, Discover and Platina. The new 100cc bike could be called the Discover 100, although nothing is confirmed as yet. The technology on the upcoming 100cc bike is still unknown but what could the most advanced technology in the 100cc segment mean? Could Bajaj Auto give the 100cc motorcycle a 4-valve engine, front petal disc and monoshock rear suspension? You never know as the company is quite capable of offering anything in any segment.

Bajaj Auto is looking at increasing export operations drastically by 2015. Currently the company exports around 30% of its production, which they plan to boost to 50%, leading to increase in profits. The upcoming 100cc bike could play a vital role in emerging markets like India and Africa. Bajaj Auto is also said to be working on a 375cc motorcycle, which will be launched by April 2014. This 375cc Pulsar will share components with the upcoming KTM Duke 375, which is due for launch around the same time.
