Hyundai HB20X Compact Crossover

As much as Indians love crossovers and SUVs, so do Brazilians. Case in point is the debut of a vast number of crossovers and compact SUVs at the ongoing Sao Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil. A few weeks back, Hyundai unleashed the HB20 in the Brazilian market. The HB20 is the Latin version of the i20, where HB stands for Hyundai Brazil. Now the Korean automaker has taken no time to debut the crossover version of the HB20, which is badged as the HB20X.

The Hyundai HB20X is based on the HB20 and retains most of its elements with it. However the front and rear styling is different, with the vehicle jacked up by a significant amount. The interiors remain more or less unchanged but Hyundai has given the HB20X sports pedals, blue double stitching (on the seats and steering wheel) and chrome finishing (on the door handles and AC controls). Powering the Hyundai HB20X Crossover is a 1.6-litre petrol engine which produces 128 BHP of power. This engine is mated to both manual and automatic transmissions.

Hyundai will also debut a sedan version of the HB20 in the Brazilian market in the near future. While the HB20X will go on sale in Brazil only next year, we feel the car has a lot of potential in India as well. The craze for crossovers is no less in our country and Hyundai should consider bringing in a crossover version of the i20 soon. While the HB20X is front-wheel driven and doesn’t really have off-road capabilities, most people want their vehicle to look macho and the HB20X Crossover fits those requirements to quite an extent.
