Hero MotoCorp Launches Passion XPro

Hero Passion XPro

During the 2012 Auto Expo this year, Hero MotoCorp showcased three products, namely Ignitor, Maestro and Passion XPro, to be launched this year. Out of these, Maestro is a110cc scooter and Ignitor and PassionX Pro are 125cc and 110cc commuter bikes respectively. The one thing common in all these three products is that they carry Honda DNA in them. Maestro and Ignitor were launched earlier this year and now Passion XPro has also been launched silently. Few days back, we heard that Hero Passion XPro dispatches have been started and many dealers have received it in stockyard. The dealers have confirmed to us that the bikes are available with them for display but bookings have not yet opened because of some formalities which are yet to be completed.

Even after parting up, Hero MotoCorp and Honda 2-wheelers India had an agreement to share some technology. Taking the advantage of this, Hero has launched four products. Impulse is re-engineered Honda Bros NXR 150, Maestro has engine and many other parts in common with the Honda Activa, Ignitor is re-engineered Honda CB Stunner and now PassionX Pro borrows engine and other components from Honda CB Twister. The Passion XPro is powered by 109.1cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine which produces 8.7 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 9.36 Nm of torque at 5500 RPM. Fuel is supplied to the engine through a conventional carburetor and the motor can be started by kick or optional self-start.

Power is transferred to the wheels through a 4-speed gearbox. There is an option of having tubeless tyres, electric start and alloy wheels at an added cost. The suspension setup is tad similar to other Hero bikes. On looks front, this bike is typical Hero product which comes with heavy sticker job. The fuel tank now has plastic panels and side panel gets matte black treatment. Rest is similar to the existing Passion Pro and carries similar dual tone paint job. This bike comes in 8 different color options. Instrument cluster is also similar to Passion Pro which has combination of analogue speedometer and digital information display.

We can sum it up this bike as a Passion Pro with a heart of Honda CB Twister. Obviously, it has some advantages associated with it, like refined and reliable Honda engine and easy and less costly after-sales service of Hero MotorCorp. This will be the last bike from Hero Motocorp that will carry Honda;s DNA in it. The bookings for this may start just before Diwali or 2-3 days after it. Hero MotoCorp has priced the Passion XPro from Rs. 51,500/- for drum brake, kick start with spoke wheels variant to Rs. 56,900/- for front disc brake, self-start with alloy wheels variant (all prices, on-road Delhi).

God knows when are they really going to launch something “NEW” rather than refreshes with a different name with just new labels and stickers.

Wake up HERO before its too late

    • Suraj

As we have mentioned these bikes are launched just to make transition period easy for Hero.
This one will be last such bike which will share Honda’s technology.

Now when Hero has entered some interesting tie ups and is investing heavily in R&D, the future MIGHT bring some fresh breed of bikes!

    • Grahamphone

Quite surprising..Just a year back, it was very difficult to imagine how Hero as a brand would replace a strong brand Hero Honda. Alas! They have managed to transform from Hero Honda to Hero which is incredible within almost 2 years ahead of its deadline. Sales of 15days are enough to compete and beat others with decent margin. Without any Performance bike and just by playing with stickers one has to agree they have strong marketing tool which are capable of selling almost anything.

    • srinath

good bikes for people choosing passion bikes

  • Kedar

I liked the design of the bike and if I am not wrong this bike uses the engine Honda CB Twister.

  • No One

Exhaust looks like coming from Bajaj bikes where as over design feels hint of TVS Star City

  • pulsarboy

true… this is a sticker bike. where is mono shock and 4 valves ? as usual hero will keep using hondas old technology and will selling sticker bikes. thats why sales are falling. they need to bring some good bikes like Pulsar200NS and Discover 125ST which are not only advanced but are good value for money propotion. I dont know why peoples buy there hero craps

  • Hero

    Passion XXXXXPro
    Passion XXXXXXPro

What bullshit….i assume there are bullshit people too buying Hero products..No wonder they are fooling indian around.

    • Suraj

But we need to understand the reality that it is not easy to be technologically independent, for any company.
Hero Honda rarely gave any exciting product but at least they realized it and now acting on it.
So we have to bare with such bikes for some more time and then we may see some serious turnaround.

    • Grahamphone

Yes I agree..Bajaj have more exciting products…Discover 100,110,125,135,150,125ST now next 100ST…etc. this new 100cc will have worlds most advance technology of 4 valve, 4 spark plugs,6 gears, 6 alloy spoke, 2 spring in spring, tube in tyre, folding number plate, single rear shock, 2 rear mudguards, 2 carburator, led and backlit all over etc…moreover it is expected to have a decent fuel efficency of around 150kmpl and a top speed of around 200kmph

      haha :D

I think you are not aware of the number of bikes that bajaj has launched and failed. BM150 being the latest casualty. They have so much technology within them, but in most of the comapros that i have read off late, the only aspect that inches them to the top position is the pricing.

So dont chide Hero for launching a lot of variants with stickers. This bike has a brand new engine (i know its Honda soruced) but it does offer an genuine alternative to the Dream Yuga. The one aspect that differentiates Hero and Honda in the current market is the After Sale Service. Visit a Honda dealership and you will understand what i am trying to say. So Hero does offer an alternative choice to a large number of Indians and at presnet, i think they are doing a commendable job.

It is yet to be see what awaits them in the future once they launch bikes with their own Tech. Till then, leave them alone.

    • Amit

Its sales will not hamper by technology as splendor and passion are already with decade old honda technology. Any thing new with experts will be only a favour in Hero

  • gash

who knows…. they may do it.. but still will remain a good vibrator

  • Vivek singh {V.S.T.}

  • s m mustafa

What is the mileage please tel. in real world, in city or on highway

  • Ayan

That Hero group sells bikes with outdated technology is a well-known fact however, this engine is a really good one. The only other thing which the reviewer has omitted is that this bike has a box-section swing arm instead of regular Passion’s tubular-section one. Should make for a better handler also. As for stickers or no stickers, that is a personal choice and an unending debate…
