2015 Skoda Polar

Volkswagen owned Czech car maker, Skoda is planning to introduce another compact SUV and this time it will be shorter than the Yeti at 4.10-metres. This mini SUV is expected to be marketed in 2015 and it is likely to be named as Skoda Polar. The Polar will compete with the Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and Renault Duster. The Skoda Polar should be based on the MQB platform that underpins Volkswagen Golf 7 and Audi A3. It will not be based on platforms like the Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo, Seat Mii or even the next generation Fabia.

The Skoda Polar is expected to be front-wheel drive and can feature an optional All-Wheel-Drive variant. The design language of the Polar is derived from the Skoda Mission L Concept unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show. The car will be positioned under the Skoda Yeti, which is 4.20-metres long and is located halfway between urban and SUV models in the category.

The Skoda Yeti is a five-door, five-seater compact SUV model introduced at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show as the division’s first entry into the popular SUV market. The Yeti comes with two versions, two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive variants use the latest fourth-generation Haldex Traction multi-plate clutch to transmit the drive to the rear wheels, and all drive layouts include fully independent multi-link rear suspension.

The Volkswagen Taigun concept presented in Brazil recently is also expected to hit the production lines in near future. Its underpinnings come from the smaller platform used by the Up! Reports overseas already say that Skoda would get a re-badged version of the VW Taigun for markets where it has a strong recall. Skoda sells a re-badged version of the Up, called the Citigo in Europe. The Skoda Polar is expected to be launched in 2015 with plenty of adventure packed into it.
