Great Wall Motor Co. (GWM), a major Chinese automobile firm has full-fledged plans to enter the Indian automobile market with their range of cars and SUV’s. Great Wall was established in 1976 and would manufacture only trucks until it got the license to manufacture cars and SUV’s in 2008. Within a span of two years it became the largest SUV manufacturer in China, which says alot about the company’s potential. The Haval H5 has already been spotted on test in India earlier.

The top officials of the Chinese company had been to Delhi lately for discussions wherein they have cited that they would be entering the Indian market independently and not through a joint venture. Earlier reports suggested ICML being Great Wall’s Indian partner but that is not going to happen. Another team is also on the lookout for the most feasible location for their manufacturing plant in India. With SAIC already here, more Chinese companies are looking at tapping into the Indian market.

The Chinese automaker has many vehicles to offer including the Great Wall C50 and C30 sedans, Great Wall C20R and C10 hatchbacks along with SUVs such as the Haval M4, Haval H5 and Haval H6. The company has a claimed annual production capacity of 8 lakh units and exports to about 100 countries around the globe. GWM intends to increase this number to 15 lakh vehicles by 2015. This Chinese firm, in order to get established, will have to work very hard towards its reputation and provide good quality and safe products as per international standards.
