2012 Indica Vista ZX

Tata Motors has finally launched the Indica Vista with the more powerful diesel option, which is available on the diesel Manza, Linea and Punto. Dubbed the Quadrajet 90, the Tata Indica Vista uses the same 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from Fiat, which is tuned to produce more output courtesy the variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The Vista Quadrajet 90 pumps out 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

This more powerful Quadrajet 90 version of the Tata Vista is offered in two variants – VX and ZX, priced at Rs. 5.74 lakhs and Rs. 6.40 lakhs respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Vista VX gets ABS and EBD, while the Vista ZX gets dual airbags and alloy wheels as standard equipment. The 90 PS version of the Vista is identical to the regular 75 PS version as far as the exteriors go, expect that the more powerful Vista gets black roof.

With more power and torque on tap, the Vista’s performance is bound to improve. The Multijet engine in the 90 PS set of tune offers very good performance, pulling very well in mid-range of the power band. The Vista should be quicker to 100 km/hr too, although top speed is unlikely to be altered. The extra horses benefit largely on the highways and makes overtaking easier.

However the major change to the Tata Vista Quadrajet 90 is the change in interiors. Tata Motors has given the Vista diesel 90 PS, the dashboard from the Manza. This results in the instrument cluster now being on the right side and not on the centre. Tata Motors is expected to change the cluster position on the entire Vista line-up in 2013. The Fiat Grande Punto 90 HP is priced at Rs. 7.22 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Although the Vista and Punto share engines, both cars are very different and shouldn’t be compared.
