Bajaj Auto has said recently that they will try and introduce new products into the entry level 100cc bike segment. The response to their new 100cc bike, the new Discover 100T has been pretty decent and newer products in this segment will help them gain a bigger market share. These motorcycles will be based on the platform of the 100T itself but will have their own special features for differentiation and will offer more than rivals with good pricing as well.
The Discover 100T is the first bike Bajaj Auto has offered that i priced higher tha rivals from market leader Hero MotoCorp as well as Honda. But the bike is more powerful and offers higher features which justifies the pricing. Bajaj will start aggressively marketing the bike and will wait till March to actually guage the response from the market towards the 100T. It is expected that this bike should give them 10 percent increase in market share, thus increasing overall monthly sales from 20,000 to 22,000 units.
Bajaj Auto at the moment has a 25 percent market share in the Indian market with 32 percent share in exports. The 100cc category is vital for the company to get higher sales as it comprises of 65 percent sales in India. The higher capacity bikes, which is Bajaj Auto’s strong hold, comprises just 35 percent. So the company will try to maximize sales of the Discover 100T as well as introduce newer extremely desirable products in the 100cc category to attract customers to their showrooms.
