2013 KTM RC250R Production Racer

KTM and Sandro Cortese won the World Championship titles on the KTM RC 250 GP bike in Malaysia. After the successful win, KTM is further developing the KTM racer for this year. For customer teams, KTM will be sending the KTM RC 250R for racing. There are few differences between the RC 250R and RC 250 GP. The RC 250 GP runs with the regulation enforced Dell’Orto electronics unit. In order to save weight, it has a different Akrapovic exhaust system, magnesium wheels, modified brakes and WP factory suspension parts.

Coming to the tech specs of the KTM RC 250R, the racer is powered by a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 250cc motor with a DOHC layout churning out 50 PS of maximum power output at 13,000 RPM with a peak torque figure of 28 Nm at 11,000 RPM, mated to a 6-speed cassette gearbox with two optional ratio versions. The motorcycle sits on a tubular steel trellis frame with adjustable headstock and aluminium swingarm pivot. The KTM RC 250R features upside down fork suspension at the front with adjustable spring preload, adjustable compression and rebound damping.

Shock absorbers at the rear with adjustable shock length, hydraulic preload adjuster, adjustable High-/Low-Speed- compression damping and rebound damping. For braking, the KTM uses Brembo 290 mm single disc at the front and 190 mm disc at the rear. The equipment list includes adjustable motor brake, traction control, launch control, fuel mapping, ignition mapping, pit speed limiter and quickshifter. Only 67 of these models will be made for the 2013 season. If you want the 250cc beast in your garage, it will cost you around $60,000 (Rs. 32.29 lakhs).

However KTM will be launching a roady ready version of the RC 250R next year, which will be priced very aggressively. While the overall design and engine will remain more or less unchanged, there will be a slight downgrade in terms of hardware to get a mouth watering price. The KTM RC 250R will be the flagship KTM bike in India and is expected to be pried around Rs. 3 lakhs. It will be manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan facility, enabling KTM to highly localise the product with an attractive price tag.
