Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch four new SUVs in India in the coming two years. The SUV and compact SUV market is growing by leaps and bounds and Maruti Suzuki has already tasted success with its Ertiga MPV. So it is but natural for India’s largest car maker to encash on the growing demand and launch a few SUVs that will fetch high sales volumes in the Indian market. The competition like the Renault Duster and Mahindra Quanto is racking up all the sales right now.

Maruti Suzuki’s first SUV offering will be the SX4 Crossover (the new one which has been showcased in concept form as the S-Cross) which will be launched sometime in 2014. This model is based on the SX4 hatchback and has been on sale for quite sometime in international markets. The next highly awaited car is the production version of the XA Alpha concept, which was showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo in Delhi and gathered quite a lot of public interest. The XA Alpha should be launched sometime in 2015 and is currently under development.

Maruti Suzuki will also launch two other SUVs. It is expected that one of them will be a sub-4 metre version of the Grand Vitara SUV. The bigger sibling has failed in the Indian market due to lack of a diesel engine. The next SUV will be based on the Swift Dzire compact sedan. It is expected that these SUVs may use existing engines currently used in the Ertiga MPV, the 1.4-litre petrol and the 1.3-litre diesel which will further help in reducing costs owing to lower taxation.
