Ford has unveiled the production version of the EcoSport in India today. The company is showcasing the vehicle at Saket City Walk Mall in Delhi and Infinity Mall in Malad, Mumbai. Ford will showcase the EcoSport across 12 cities (as part of a roadshow) in the coming days, in order to create hype around the product, which has been a long time coming. The company has announced various details about the vehicle including features and engines. Bookings for the compact SUV will begin post the Urban Discoveries campaign is over. Ford will export the right hand drive version of the EcoSport to the UK from the second half of the year.
The Ford EcoSport will be offered with SYNC technology (with voice control) which features a dialer, message reader, browsing capability, music streaming and Bluetooth connectivity. The vehicle gets equipment like push button start, climate control, 6 airbags (front and side curtain), 60:40 folding rear seat, alloy wheels, ABS, steering mounted audio controls, rear parking sensors with visual display, etc. The Ford EcoSport boasts of a 200 mm ground clearance and 550 mm water wading ability. The compact SUV can hold a 560-litre washing machine with the rear seats folded down.
The Ford EcoSport will be offered with 3 engines, 4 trims and 8 colours. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine is expected to produce around 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is expected to produce 91 PS of power and 204 Nm of torque. Both these engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The third engine is the 1.5-litre petrol unit from the Fiesta, which will churn out 108 BHP of power and 140 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre petrol engine will be offered with an automatic gearbox only, the same PowerShift transmission from the Fiesta Automatic.
Ford is organizing a dominoes showcase at Saket City Walk mall in Delhi on the 17th of March (6 PM onwards). Artists from Germany will use 75,000 dominoes to showcase the compact SUV to the public (teaser video below).
