Maruti DZire Regal

Honda has shocked Maruti Suzuki with the amazing price it has offered its latest product. The Honda Amaze has been positioned bang against Maruti Suzuki’s hot selling Swift DZire and India’s largest car manufacturer is already feeling the heat. The company has announced a limited edition variant of the Swift DZire, badged ‘Regal’, which is priced at Rs. 5.85 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This variant of the DZire is available with a petrol engine only as the company is already seeing high demand for its diesel powered cars.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire Regal (based on the VXi variant) comes with silver finished front grille, body-coloured rear view mirrors, leather seats, rear parking sensors, audio system, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors and a new serene blue colour. The Regal edition celebrates 5-years of the DZire’s existence and was ready since quite some time now but Maruti Suzuki was waiting for Honda to launch the Amaze to put their limited edition DZire on sale. We had predicted about this move a few weeks back.

Does Maruti Suzuki have a reason to worry with the launch of the Amaze? Definitely yes. The Honda Amaze is better than the Swift DZire in many aspects. The latter commands a waiting period of more than three months on certain variants. Maruti Suzuki has 40,000 bookings for the DZire which are yet to be fulfilled, a fact which shows the popularity of this sub 4-metre vehicle.

While Maruti Suzuki has sold more than 5.3 lakh units of the DZire till date, Honda has received 6500 bookings already and waiting period has shot up to two months for the Brio based sedan. Honda has a production capacity of only 5000 units of the Amaze every month. Maruti Suzuki is now contemplating the set up of a plant in South Africa.

Hey when Honda will increase it’s production capacity. Now they should be able to manufacture atleast 10k amaze per month….

    • Sushrut

Honda can only increase production by another 1.2 lakh units by end of 2014. So in real sense Honda is not in a position to cash in on the demand which Amaze has managed to generate. As of now its a total of 10k units for all models put together.

  • dennis

since honda has stopped production of accord , civic nd jazz soo they could use d production facility for amaze which was earlier occupied by these 3… and ramp up d productions to atleast some extent…

    • Sushrut

Dennis, stopping production of Jazz and Civic (Accord still in production) has freed up very little capacity as both models put together were not selling more than 500 units per month. But still 500 units of Amaze is better than Jazz and Civic. Honda should take care of the capacity before they launch next generation Jazz which will come with diesel heart. It just amazes me that Honda after spending more than a decade has such pathetic production capacity.

The concept of DZire being used as taxi is catching up in Chennai Airport. I only they do not move towards Amaze now. THats going to tar the image of Amaze & Honda.

Rajan, I thought Etios dominated taxi segment. In Chennai I see lots of Ford Classic’s being used as taxis.

Please correct the price. It is showing 85 lakhs :-)

Done, thanks for pointing it out.

Well according to me Dzire Regal is just a clever ploy by Maruti to get new customers to its show room…..If one goes by the various reviews in different forums and different discussion threads Maruti has tried to create an impression that Regal is just 6000 /approx. costlier than Vxi Dzire model and offers some extras which are worth at least 15-16000…..and when I went deep it just appeared 2 be a clever marketing gimmick….by Maruti…..the reality is that the Ex-showroom price of Regal is costlier by around 6000 (may vary from place 2 place )….and there is a Regal Kit which costs around 15000/…so in reality Regal is costlier to the VXi version by at least 20-21000/….and Maruti has cleverly tried to give an impression that Regal is costlier just by Rs. 6000/…..In fact this Regal Kit can be fitted in any other variants also….Maruti has seriously underestimated the intelligence of masses…..but what pains more is the gullibility of so called auto experts in not being able 2 decode this and being in active connivance with Maruti in trying 2 give the impression Maruti wanted…..or may be they would have just missed these finer points…..I give the benefit of doubt….so in reality Regal as far as value 4 money is concerned….there is none at all… one should be under this impression…..I just tried my best to put across a fact…a clever and clear case of Maruti trying 2 mislead the customers…whether this works or not only sales figure will tell

    • Faisal Khan

I have confusion among Maruti Swift Dzire Vxi or Regal/ Honda Amaze s-ivtech/ Chervolet Sail sedan LS ABS model. Please suggest me in few words. Thanks in advance.

    • Faisal Khan

The Amaze seems the best bet.
