2013 Tata Nano Spyshot Side

We have lately seen several camouflaged test mules of the upcoming Tata Nano facelift, which hints to us that the launch is around the corner. Recently, the 2013 Tata Nano has been caught undisguised, when it was being filmed for a new ad campaign. From the looks of it, the manufacturer has done some minor cosmetic changes on the exteriors. The facelifted Tata Nano has been given chrome tipped bonnet lip and a rear boot where the chrome strip runs between the lamp clusters to give it an upmarket look and feel. The rear bumper has now been revised for added ventilation.

We all know that the Tata Nano is a rear engined hatchback and the ventilated rear bumper on the facelift Nano indicates us about a turbocharged diesel engine expected to be fitted into the boot which would comparatively generate more heat and will need better cooling and larger intakes, hence the added ventilation. The diesel engine to power the Nano is likely to be an 800 cc turbocharged, two-cylinder unit which is expected to produce 40 BHP of peak power at 4000 RPM and 94 Nm of peak torque at 2500 RPM, according to recently revealed information provided by the turbocharger supplier, Garret.

The existing Tata Nano doesn’t have an operable boot so you can’t access the storage space available at the back but the new offering comes with a practical hatch, which can now be opened but from a release situated inside the car, as an external boot release lever can’t be seen in the pictures. The new Nano gets a fresh set of wheel covers and a new blue shade will also be available to choose from a wide range of vibrant colors. The interiors remain unchanged with the similar middle mounted instrument console on the dashboard but we expect a glove box to be fitted in the facelift. The launch is expected within a few weeks with only a petrol engine option, while the diesel is expected to be introduced later this year.
