Hero Leap Is A Revolutionary Hybrid Scooter

Hero Leap Side

The Hero Leap is India’s first electric hybrid concept scooter, which was unveiled by Hero MotoCorp at the 2012 Auto Expo. The hybrid scooter concept was developed from scratch at their R&D centre in Gurgaon. It is a technologically advanced scooter equipped with new innovative features. The scooter runs on both petrol and electric power in order to provide maximum fuel efficiency. In terms of design, the Hero Leap looks way ahead of its time. Hero has treated the hybrid scooter with futuristic styling and following are its salient features –

  • Three technology patents
  • Nine design registrations
  • Rechargeable battery management system
  • Petrol based range extender
  • Chain case doubles up as a swingarm for the rear suspension
  • Wide centre compartment
  • Storage tray and integrated luggage rack
  • Adjustable seat
  • Instrument cluster with LCD display
  • Dual LED headlight with minimal power consumption
  • Daylight Running Lamps
  • Large diameter front wheel
  • LED turn signals

As can be seen from the features list above, the Hero Leap is indeed a revolution for India’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. There is no confirmation from Hero MotoCorp on when this scooter will go into production but the company could take the first mover advantage as TVS is also planning a hybrid scooter (Qube). Hybrid scooters are expensive to make due to the technology but if our government offers good incentives and subsidies, we could soon see hybrid vehicles as an affordable alternative to fossil fuel burning automobiles.

bloody inora…..i thought hero was sleeping day and night…and just investing in stickering old bikes..but this has blown my mind….

Does that looks more industrial product than a street bike. I would prefer more rugged looks, some curves and creases, proportions…..but seems to be an awesome product from utility point of view…liked it.

I had also the same feeling like usamah…….’s and also agree with this article opinion on Hero to take first mover advantage. I’m lovin it…

Aariz, This is amazing!! In going series hybrid this scooter is the Indian answer to the new BMW i3. The goodies of this series hybrid concept is far superior to that of parallel hybrids especially in the advent of the long range/life LIION batteries.
    Way to go Hero!!
