Hero Karizma R Loses Its Charm With Facelift

Hero Karizma R 2014

Some designs stand the test of time, like the original Karizma (pictured below) which looks hot even today in spite of it being 10 years old. Sadly Hero has decided to update it with a facelift, due for launch next month. The 2014 Hero Karizma R gets inspiration from its elder sibling which isn’t a good thing. The updated bike gets R written on the half fairing in similar way it was written on the old ZMR. The tank now sports the Hero name while the seat is now split. The grab rails and other bits too come from the ZMR. The windshield visor is abnormally long.

Somehow the Karizma seems to have lost its clean proportions. The single picture sent by one of our readers doesn’t showcase all the changes but looking at the updated ZMR, we don’t have much hope. The competition in the Karizma segment has intensified heavily with rivals offering much better features for a similar price. For instance, the TVS Apache 180 comes with LED pilot lights and optional ABS while the Pulsar 200 NS gets perimeter frame, monoshock rear suspension and 23.5 PS of power. If Hero wants to win volumes, it needs to offer something more substantial.

Hero MotoCorp is likely to boost power output with its tech partner Erik Buell Racing working on the engine of the updated Karizma. The current Karizma R produces 17 BHP of power and 18.35 Nm of torque from its 223cc engine, which could be boosted to almost 20 BHP. The current Karizma R sprints from 0-60 km/hr in a claimed 3.8 seconds while the top speed is 125 km/hr. Expect Hero to retain the pricing of the new Karizma which hopefully is a stop-gap measure till an new model replaces it next year.

Karizma R was better than this. Fairings which were making the bike look macho is all gone. I think new Karizma is on diet :P

  • Hardik

This is totally weird, don’t know what inspired the designers to design such an ugly bike….

  • Baljinder

Copy of Pulsar 220….. totally carp look

  • rajeev

killed the boy..R.I.P this updated thing.

  • Ben

we should call it a sport Tourer or an adventure motorcycle instead of sports bike. then only we will like the design. it’s only competitor is Yamaha fazer. eagerly waiting for Yamaha yzf r25. it will definitely be a killer in performance.

  • tejas

i wonder whether when honda left hero…did they take away hero’s designers too!??
such an hideous design…just a long bike which is not at all wide! yaak!

  • Ben

I think it will weigh less and will have class leading power to weight ratio as ebr has tuned the engine for more horses. but the single cradle chasis is a big let down, at least double cradle should be given. it’s aimed mainly at Duke, I think for high speed overtaking better highway performance. if hero prices it a little above apache rtr180 non abs, it will sell like got cakes.

  • k.p

rip karizma r…so sad…..EBR behind this crap hard to believe!

    • EBR only doing engine work, this horrid design is Hero’s work. Think about it, EBR makes the 1190, can they make such a bike like the new Karizma?

    • k.p

if they r working on engine’s why not design and chassis? how good bajaj is doing with KTM and i hope tvs-bmw combo bring good surprise…

    • jobi

Fasial , when it will reaches in market ??
      rpl pls

    • Jobi, expected in November.

  • sandy

Well after badge engineering Honda CBF Stunner into Hero Ignitor, they simply copy pasted the same design on Karizma. Now its Erik Buell turn to be get used and thrown after few years.
Atleast Bajaj n TVS were doing their own part in technical n design side, learn from them HMC.

  • k.p

after the launch of fz and its success naked bikes r in demand in india…thts y pulsar 200ns and dukes are launched….karizma R when it is launched racing or sports suprised us becoz spec show 17 bhp power and 18.3 torque its perfect tune of naked bike…

  • Prasad

After looking the facelifted zmr, karizma r and xtreme only one sentence to all you guyz “Stocks bech do Hero ka “

  • Eddy

If this is the new design language hero is going to use in their future products then they better fire their design & development team. worst karizma ever,in 2014 they are using 90’s design. better to learn from bajaj & ktm.

  • Spitfire

The ‘LAMEST’ design till date … I suggest HeroMotoCorp to relaunch the original Zma with improved mechanicals .. I don’t know why they are messing with the original ‘Cult’ design?! MrMunjal has run out of ideas it seems.

Thank god am holding my old legendary bike R KARIZMA king of road .thumbs down to this dump machine. now i came hero is nothing without the honda

  • Ben

If original karizma & ZMR was soo gud, why dint it sell ??? Just wait and watch…

  • Bali Babbar

RIP brand karizma….maar daLa Ek legendary bike ko…

  • jony

    220 copy..

GOD HELP HERO MOTOR CORP…………..i think its good , when this product will come to market and will goo suuuppppeeerrrr flop…….then they will understand about it…………i know no one like this design………even……if…..hero made new 2014 zmr look like pulsar 220….( this 2014 zmr look very different from pulsar 220 ) then also… i will not preffered that design………………am surprised that….if they made new 2014 zmr , why didnt they made it mono-shok……and…..look at that front…lol…… i meen what type of shit is that……the tail of bike looks good..( at tail hero will show its creativity will 90/100 rear tyre…..the tail is so high that even if they put 80/130 , it will not look good….but they will put..90/100 )..the tail of the bike is good…. but ….but….. from front hero shows its creativity again…..they injected the indigators in the faring and also added day running lamps…….if i will buy this bike…i will 100% cover that shitty daylight lemp and indigators…lol………..lolololol………EBR owner…after looking this bike……..hee will think……..! ….EVEN IF OUR E.B.R. HIT THE WALL AT 50KM/HR ….. OUR E.B.R. WILL LOOK BETTER THAN ….14.HERO’S ZMR……………….seriously people please look at it…m not jooking….this bike doesnt have any sense…..i mean look at the fuel tank………they should redesign it……….and that wind-shild at front……..standing tall like great khali…………they should lower it……then this bike will look better then this ……HERO SHIT……………GOD SAVE HERO …..jai matta dee….. , wahe gurru g kaa khalsaa. i like KARIZMA R old model and i planed to buy only old model
this is the worst bike i think so……….

  • Sima

Please don’t stop the karizma r old model i need one bike please keep one for me.

  • Karizmar_Deepu

Big flop show from HERO, hero honda karizma R was much much much better than hero. Can expect these kinda bikes only from “HERO”. Design sucks. No comments on this crap.
Hero honda Karizma R had a very good name, now Hero is planning to spoil it.
This is going to be a very big flop show from Hero, For sure.
I own a Karizma R, hero honda made. Seeing ma bike 1 of ma frnd took a Hero karizmaR just before 2 days, had a ride in his bike yesterday, really there is lots of difference, which sucks, makes the rider to feel sad about the vehicle. Handle bar is small n short compared to Hero karizmaR, silencer exhaust sound differs a lotttttt. engine sounds weird, self start as same as Splendor.
Looks of karizmaR was in its head, where this new hero karizmar thy have changed the shape of the head itself which looks like a copy of old kawasaki 300+cc bike or d new fazer. Plss dont manufacture this vehicle HERO.
    Hero sucks, HeroHonda KarizmaR rocks.

  • Vishwa

Please for god sake never release this bloody new version. For sure this will be a biggest failure and there is no doubt that it will spoil the existing brand name “karizma”. R or zmr ….

It would be great if hero have looked out for better designer rather than launching such a assfucking models to spoil a great Brand.

Personal advice: If u can not do atleast a better one then it looks great being quite with watevr u hav.

  • raj
