Harley Davidson Street Glide

With the increasing competition in the premium motorcycle segment in India, Harley-Davidson has further strengthened their product lineup with the latest addition of the Street Glide. It has been introduced under the Motor Company’s Project RUSHMORE, which is a global customer driven initiative by Harley-Davidson dealerships across the country. The Street Glide cruiser gets imported via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route in India and hence carries a hefty price tag of Rs. 29,00,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Harley-Davidson Street Glide is available in India across all 11 dealerships. Anoop Prakash (Managing Director, Harley-Davidson India) says that the Project RUSHMORE is a customer focused approach taken by the brand to improve the riding experience for owners of touring motorcycles. This project reflects a new direction being taken by Harley-Davidson in product development. The Street Glide is a well-equipped motorcycle with high-tech convenience as well as safety features.

The design of the Street Glide is big and brawny, keeping in mind the cruising ability of the big brute motorcycle. The chunky styling elements such as the saddle bags, headlamp housing and the fuel tank add to the robust feel of the Harley-Davidson. They like to call it as Batwing fairing, which is very eye catching. The 16-inch, 10-spoke cast aluminium wheels looks classy as well.

The Harley-Davidson Street Glide is powered by a High Output Twin Cam 103 engine that produces 138 Nm of peak torque at 3500 RPM. The engine is equipped with a new camshaft to optimize bottom-end torque and a new high-flow airbox that improves the torque by 5 percent compared to a standard Twin Cam poertrain. Stopping power comes from Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS that applies both front and rear brakes together according to the situation. There is a new hydraulic clutch control that provides consistent engagement and modulation.

The Street Glide comes with dual halogen lighting, which is stronger than before and gets an updated suspension setup. The front suspension has improved with stiffer 49 mm forks. In terms of entertainment, it comes with new colour-screen Boom Box infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition, text-to-speech technology, GPS navigation, plus support for intercom and CB communications in a single module. The Street’s Glide’s close competitor is the Indian Chief which is en route to India soon.
