Honda Urban SUV Patent

Honda unveiled the Urban SUV concept at the Detroit Motor Show, earlier this year. The concept gathered an overwhelming response by the audience and by the looks of the leaked patent images, Honda has strived to retain most of the design aspects on the production version. The Japanese automaker will be showcasing the spanking new production version of the Urban SUV concept at the upcoming 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The compact SUV is based on the 2014 Jazz platform.

While the design of the production version remains more or less the same, the styling elements on the Honda Urban have been toned down slightly. Up front, there is a sober set of headlamps supporting the grille, which takes heavy inspiration from the new CR-V. The side profile reveals an energetic stance and a more practical set of alloy wheels compared to the concept version. The rear door handles are hidden in the C-pillar, which is a neat styling cue. The rear profile doesn’t get many changes and the flashy tail lamp cluster is intact.

Overall, the Honda Urban SUV gets a well-proportioned design and it doesn’t look as compact as the Ford EcoSport because it has a length of 4.3-metres, which is similar to the Renault Duster. We expect Honda to offer the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine with the Urban SUV in India. The Japanese automaker will showcase the Urban SUV in February at the 2014 Auto Expo. Honda is also readying up the 2014 Honda City, which will come up with its global debut in India on November 25. So we can expect some good action from Honda’s stable in the coming year.
