2013 Harley Davidson FXSB Breakout

Harley-Davidson has turned all its attention on the Street range of motorcycles as the company looks at tapping the urban crowd. While the Street 750 will be launched in 2014, the Street 500 will come in next year and the automaker will put all its energy marketing these affordable products. Amidst this, Harley-Davidson does plan to bring new products to the Indian market, which are part of the global lineup. The Breakout is one such Harley model which could be launched in India later this year. The Harley-Davidson Breakout belongs to the Softail range.

First the styling, we feel the Softail Breakout looks out-and-out gorgeous, more so when viewed from the rear. The bike is quite hefty, having a length of 2445 mm and weighing 308 kgs dry. It sports 130/60/21 tyres at the front and 240/40/18 section tyres at the rear. The massive rubber is bolted on to 10-spoke cast aluminium wheels. Powering the Harley-Davidson Breakout is a 1690cc, air-cooled engine which belts out 130 Nm of torque at 3000 RPM. The claimed fuel economy is 17.85 km/l while the tank capacity is 18.9-litres.

Harley-Davidson is likely to locally assemble the Breakout in India which will lead to an attractive price. Expect the bike to be priced at around Rs. 18 lakhs, competing against cruiser alternatives from Triumph. While 18 big ones doesn’t seem cheap, one must remember the Breakout isn’t your entry level cruiser but instead one of the top bikes from the America automaker in recent times. The demand for leisure motorcycles is increasing in India and both Harley-Davidson and Triumph are looking at tapping into the growing popularity of its brand in emerging markets like India and China.
