VW Vento Preferred Edition

The C-segment has been a battleground of sorts and the top competitors fighting it out are the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid. The City has always been the market king but its sales were down due to the lack of a diesel engine. The Verna and Vento were giving each other tough competition and then Honda brought back the City to the top position after launching the new 2014 model. Now, rivals are already facing the heat since the City registered a staggering 9000-odd sales the previous month and manufacturers are coming up with strategies to improve their sales. Hyundai launched a couple of new variants of the Verna and now Volkswagen has launched the Vento Preferred Special Edition.

The Vento Preferred Special Edition comes with various additions like side door protectors, chrome trims for the windows, door visors, ‘Preferred’ badge on the boot and a trunk lip spoiler. Volkswagen has also loaded this edition with a reverse parking camera and navigation system in addition to the already existing audio system. The navigation screen will be mounted separately on the windshield and it will also serve as the parking display. Volkswagen also claims that the Vento Special Edition comes with ‘sporty’ alloys, but looking at the pictures we found nothing sporty about them as this is the same design that was available on the pre-facelift Vento.

Along with all these goodies, the Vento Preferred Special Edition comes with free first year comprehensive insurance and road-side assistance (RSA) for 4 years. Volkswagen intends to clear out their existing stock hence they are introducing such special editions. The Vento also comes with another special edition which is called the ‘Style Edition’. The VW Vento Preferred Edition is available in both Comfortline petrol and diesel engine variants. The 1.6-litre petrol and diesel units are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and the special edition won’t be available with the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine.
