Mahindra GenZe Electric Scooter

Indian conglomerate Mahindra officially unveiled its first fully electric scooter christened as the ‘GenZe’ for the US market in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Expanding its presence in the US market, the unveiling was held at the new manufacturing facility that will produce the GenZe scooters and also saw the company inaugurate the Mahindra North American Technical Center (MNATC). The new technical centre is very vital for the company as it plans to take on global rivals with its US engineered products.

Coming to the Mahindra GenZe, the fully electric scooter has been completely designed, engineered and manufactured in Michigan. It is the first urban transportation vehicle to be offered by the company and the first of its two-wheeled electric vehicle in the US. The GenZe provides a range of around 48 kms on a full charge with a top speed of 48 km/hr. US citizens will not need a license to ride the GenZe scooter.

The new facility in Michigan on the other hand has a capacity to assemble 9000 vehicles per annum, which can be expanded to 20,000 vehicles annually as per the demand. Mahindra states that the GenZe has been targeted towards students and urban commuters who want an alternative from the conventional and expensive fuel powered vehicles. The electric scooter comes with a host of utility and connectivity features for the American consumer.

The new technical centre MNATC will be providing Mahindra with product designs and technologies at a global level that will be seen in the future product portfolio of the company. The new facility will provide both engineering expertise as well as vehicle prototyping capabilities that will support the company’s aggressive strategy to become a global brand in the next 10 years. The technical facility staffs 40 engineers and can accommodate 125 engineers.
