Tata Safari Storme Road Test

You read it first on MotorBeam. With the Bolt hatchback and Zest compact sedan launches on the horizon, Tata Motors certainly has its hands full for this year. However, once the new launches are completed, the Indian car maker will be updating the Safari Storme with more features. The VX 4×2 variant of the Tata Safari Storme has been updated and misses out on a few features, but is substantially cheaper. Our sources confirm that Tata is also working on making the Safari Storme more desirable by adding more features and power to the top end ZX variant.

The Tata Safari Storme VX variant is now Rs. 25,000/- cheaper over the existing model, but is void of the current audio system and leather seats. The top end ZX variant on the other hand will get a list of new features which includes a new 2-DIN audio system, front facing third row of seats and more power from the VariCOR engine. Currently, the Safari Storme is powered by the 2.2-litre VTT, common rail diesel engine that produces 140 PS of power at 4000 RPM and 320 Nm of torque between 1700-2700 RPM.

Earlier last month, the Safari Storme was spotted testing in Ooty and the SUV will be updated with 150 PS of power from the same VariCOR engine that was updated on the Aria. Also expect to see the new Harman infotainment system and a whole lot of features from the Aria to come to the Safari’s cabin. No major changes are expected to the design of the SUV, apart from some mild tweaks.

In terms of pricing, the Tata Safari Storme VX 4×2 variant is priced at Rs. 12.31 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the old price was Rs. 12.56 lakhs. The updated VX 4×4 variant on the other hand is priced at Rs. 13.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), old price was Rs. 13.82 lakhs. The Safari Storme competes against the Mahindra Scorpio, due for a facelift later this year, followed by the Renault Duster that will get a 4×4 variant and the Force One 4×4 that was launched earlier this week.
