The 2015 Pulsar 150 could get a 160cc engine that will be tuned to produce significantly higher power output compared to the outgoing model and will be positioned on the premium end of the 150cc segment.

Bajaj Auto has had a busy year with the company extensively testing a slew of new models scheduled to launch in the coming months. With no sight of a launch date anytime soon, the 2015 Pulsar was caught testing once again in Lonavala, Maharashtra earlier this week and the test mule revealed more information on the powertrain that is being extensively updated than we originally expected. A recent report suggests that the new generation Pulsar will be equipped with a 160cc engine that will be replacing the 150cc twin-spark DTS-i unit seen on the current model.

The 160cc single-cylinder-air-cooled, triple-spark engine could be a bored out version of the current 150cc unit or an all-new unit. While the power and torque figures remain a mystery, expect it to be substantially higher than the outgoing Pulsar. The bike will continue with a 5-speed transmission. In addition, the new Pulsar will also get several new bits including an underbelly exhaust, headlight, fuel tank, side fenders and the new analogue-digital console taking inspiration from the flagship 200 NS.

Mechanically, the 2015 Bajaj Pulsar 150 gets a petal front disc brake, rear monoshock suspension, LED tail lamp and the kick start feature. Suspension duties are performed by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock set-up at the rear. The test mule was also spotted with a different fuel filler cap, while the Y-shaped alloy wheels are wrapped in rather skinny 100/90/17 MRF Zapper rubber.

With the Discover 150 F/S launched in the lower end of the 150cc segment, Bajaj can now position the Pulsar as an out and out sporty offering that will be competing against the likes of the Yamaha FZ FI V2.0, Suzuki Gixxer as well as Honda’s upcoming 160cc motorcycle in the same space. The 2015 Pulsar 150 is also expected to be priced more optimistically over the current model featuring a vastly improved design and powertrain. By opting for a 160cc engine on the new Pulsar, Bajaj is able to kill two birds with one stone as this bike will also replace the Pulsar 180.
