Following up on our report last month of Kawasaki’s plans to launch products in new segments, the Versys 1000 Adventure Tourer has now been launched in the country, priced at Rs. 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune). With the growing affinity towards adventure tourers in the country, Kawasaki is looking to tap the lucrative Adventure tourer segment early on with its offering that competes against established rivals in the form of the Triumph 800 XC and the Tiger Explorer, which are one of the more popular models in Triumph India’s stable.

The 2015 Kawasaki Versys 1000 uses a 1043cc in-line four-cylinder engine producing 120 BHP of power and 102 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission that sends power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. The tourer comes with an upright seating position, adjustable handlebar and windscreen for better rider comfort. Stopping power comes from dual 310 mm discs with four-piston calipers at the front and a 250 mm disc with single-piston caliper at the rear. While the 2015 Versys gets traction control system standard internationally, it is still not confirmed if the Indian model will get it as well. ABS however is being offered as standard.

Kawasaki is bringing the Versys 1000 as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) to India. Kawasaki commenced taking bookings of the new Versys 1000 a few days back and the motorcycle is exclusively available at the Pune dealership only, while deliveries are expected to commence by early next month. Kawasaki is offering the Versys only in one colour option (Black) for now, as seen with its other offerings. With more riders looking to explore newer places, the adventure tourer segment might just be the next big market in the high capacity motorcycle space.
