BMW India has launched the new BMW M5 facelift, which is priced at Rs. 1.35 crores (ex-showroom, India). The 2015 BMW M5 performance sedan competes primarily against the Mercedes E63 AMG that was launched last year.

The BMW 5-Series, as we all know, is an executive mid-size luxury sedan that offers a good balance of luxury and performance. Based on the BMW 5-Series is the M5, which is its brutal brother that offers extreme performance with a similar package of luxury. The BMW M5 F10 Series was launched in India in 2012 and now, the Bavarian luxury carmaker has launched the mid-cycle facelift of the beast, priced at Rs. 1.35 crores (ex-showroom, India). The performance luxury sedan comes to India as a completely built unit (CBU) and is available across all BMW dealerships.

Design – There are minimal styling changes on the exteriors of the BMW M5 facelift. Just like the 5-Series facelift, it comes with the updated headlight cluster, which is more bright and sharp. The signature kidney grille has been revised with closely stacked slats and features the ///M badge. The front and rear bumpers remain exactly the same with brawny air intakes and wide diffuser. No changes are made to the side profile at all but BMW has replaced the 5-spoke alloys with 7-spoke ones that look neat. The rear only gets updated with new LED detailing on the tail lights. The new BMW M5 comes with 7 colour options.

Interiors – On the inside, the new BMW M5 remains more or less the same with additional features. Leather Merino upholstery comes as standard in the new M5 with fine-wood trims on offer. The new M-specific three-spoke steering wheel looks extremely sporty with a slew of integrated controls. The volume of storage has improved under the armrest. The Control Display now comes with a hint of chrome that adds to the premium feel of the cabin. The BMW ConnectedDrive system has been updated with next gen iDrive with touch controller and handwriting recognition. The 25.9 cm colour display comes with 3D maps. Some of the new features include BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific views, Harman Kardon surround sound system and BMW Apps.

Engine – Powering the 2015 BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre TwinPower turbocharged 8-cylinder engine that produces 560 HP of power with 680 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The steering mounted shift paddles further enhance the fun factor of the BMW M5. 0-100 km/hr sprint is achievable in just 4.3 seconds. The Active M Differential ensures a good balance of comfort and sportiness. The BMW M5 returns 10.10 km/l of claimed fuel efficiency.

Safety – In terms of safety, the Bavarian automaker offers air bags, Active M Differential, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) including M Dynamic mode, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Active Protection with Attentiveness Assistant and Active headrests (front).
