The glow plug module will be replaced with a new waterproof design

It seems that recalls are a part of the bundle and package of almost every vehicle that manufacturers sell throughout the globe. While some companies choose to issue a voluntary recall as a precautionary measure, some choose to recall their vehicles only after receiving several complaints from disgruntled customers. There have also been times when companies have never issued any official recall despite being aware about the issues plaguing their vehicles and only replacing parts free of charge for those who actually turn up with complaints. So anyways, Ford India has now issued a recall for the Classic sedan.

The recall is only for Classic TDCi variants for a faulty Glow Plug Control Module. The glow plug is a component that is used to heat the engine during cold starts. The company had earlier issued a similar recall for the EcoSport in July 2013. Company officials are in the process of contacting Classic owners to notify them about the recall which affects vehicles manufactured between October 2010 and December 2011. The glow plug module will be replaced with a new waterproof design and the replacement will be carried out free of charge.

The Ford Classic comes with a 1.4-litre TDCi diesel engine that puts out 68 BHP of power and 160 Nm of torque. The oil burner is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It competes with the Chevrolet Sail, Toyota Etios, Fiat Linea Classic and sub 4-metre offerings from various car makers. The Classic is all set to be replaced by a new sub 4-metre sedan next year which Ford previewed in the form of the Figo Sedan earlier this year. The number of recalls in India has increased ever since SIAM issued the voluntary recall code in 2012.
