The Mahindra concepts showcase very interesting and appealing designs based on the Centuro which include a cafe racer as well as a Scrambler. Neither will be offered for sale.
While Mahindra’s two-wheeler division may not be producing the most aspirational two-wheelers, the manufacturer is surely taking efforts to make its commuter offering a tad bit more stylish. Adding a bit of spice, the automaker has showcased two new concepts namely a Scrambler and a Cafe Racer built in collaboration with private customisers at the 2014 Autocar Performance Show based on the 110cc Centuro that were exclusively built and showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year.
Radically styled, the first concept based on the Centuro is the Mahindra Cafe Racer done up by JC Moto and has been built to be a track scorcher with its extremely lightweight design. The bike sheds a whopping 20 kgs with the use of aluminium and glass fibre in its construction, while the frame has been shortened compared to the regular version equipped with only the bare essentials.
The cafe racer concept comes with a custom made fuel tank, glass fibre seat hump and gets clip-on handlebars with aluminium rear set pegs that authentically replicates the yesteryear retro design of cafe racers. In addition, you get a custom headlight with LED front and rear turn indicators as well as an LED tail light. The cafe racer is equipped with the same 110cc MCi-5 engine and comes with upside down forks, front disc brakes as well as a free flow air filter and exhaust that rides on new spoke wheels.
The second concept showcased is the Mahindra Scrambler done up by Bombay Custom Works, which once again comes with the bare essentials making it more mud and dirt friendly. The bike gets done up in a matte green finish with a custom made seat and tank pad. The ground clearance has also increased by 3-inches and the motorcycle gets a swept exhaust to keep it out of water.
In addition, the concept gets a custom built monoshock rear suspension, raised mud guards, wide handlebars and knobby dirt spec tyres to take on the dirt and gravel ridden roads. In terms of mechanicals, the customisers have altered the Centuro’s frame which has been shortened for the concept, while no changes have been made to the 110cc MCi-5 engine that continues to produce 8.5 BHP of power.
