The Chevrolet Spin will compete against the Honda Mobilio in the segment and could replace the Enjoy MPV that is currently on sale.

The Chevrolet Spin is not expected to launch before 2017

Sold internationally in markets like Brazil and Indonesia, the Chevrolet Spin MPV was recently caught testing on the Vadodara-Halol toll road in Gujarat. While General Motors has no plans to launch the Spin (or any other new product) anytime soon, there could be a possibility of the MPV coming to India in the near future. The company already retails the Tavera and Enjoy in the personal and commercial MPV segments, however, sales of either models have not been as appreciative as GM would have hoped for.

The Chevrolet Spin measures 4360 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1656 mm in height which puts it right against the Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga in the MPV space. The 7-seater is powered by a 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine under the hood, all paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. GM also retails the Spin with a more powerful 1.5-litre diesel unit paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the MPV comes with a host of standard creature comforts and an appreciable design that is more GM-centric than SAIC found on the Enjoy MPV.

GM is certainly in need of a good product and the Spin MPV might just be the savior. Considering the automaker already sells the MPV in markets similar to India, there is no reason as to why the Spin wouldn’t work in our country. Moreover, the model offers a sporty design language that will entice the young set of personal buyers. With the Enjoy hardly leaving a mark against the competition, GM could replace the low selling model with the Spin that just might resurrect automaker’s sales in the segment.

GM had earlier stated that the company will not be launching any new product in the country before 2017, which automatically delays the Spin’s launch by a good two years. The company also plans to introduce the Adra concept based compact SUV around the same time. Meanwhile, GM will be launching refreshed models of its existing product lineup.
