Chetan Maini has been replaced by ex-Ford MD Arvind Mathew as the new CEO for Mahindra REVA and the same will be effective from 1st May 2015.

Chetan Maini, founder and CEO of Mahindra Reva has resigned from his position and will be moving on to a new and diversified role within the group, the company recently announced. He will now have a wider role in the new technology ventures and will also lead other technology initiatives in the company. Replacing Chetan Maini will be ex-Ford India Managing Director (MD) Arvind Mathew as the new CEO of Mahindra’s electric subsidiary. Both Chetan and Arvind will be commencing their new roles in the company from 1st May 2015.

Chetan Maini has been one of the pioneers in developing electric vehicle technology and founded the Reva electric car company back in 1994. The Bangalore based company started working on India’s first electric car the ‘REVA’ which was launched in 2001 and was also sold internationally as the G-Wiz. The company was then taken over by Mahindra in 2010 to form ‘Mahindra Reva’ with Chetan serving as the CEO and technical head. The company’s last launch was the Mahindra e2o that came out in 2013. While Chetan Maini will not be actively involved in the day-to-day operations, he is still associated with Mahindra Reva and Formula E-Racing in an advisory capacity.

Arvind Mathew, on the other hand, comes with two decades of experience working with Ford India. He has been credited with playing a major role in the development of new vehicles and power training program for the American automaker and went on to become President and MD of the company from 2005 to 2008. In his last role, Arvind was the CEO of Tata Advanced Materials Ltd. With his diverse international exposure, technical background and proven ability to drive innovation and growth, Arvind will take Mahindra Reva to newer heights, the company said in a statement.
