The Datsun Go has indeed helped improve Nissan’s sales target for India

Nissan has been struggling in India for a long time now but have showed signs of improvement with respect to number of vehicles sold. Nissan has been working hard on this component by firstly collaborating with Renault to develop a common engine platform which can be used for both petrol and diesel cars. Nissan also recently planned to double its sales network to 300 dealerships by the end of next year in India. But, Nissan India seems to have hit a big bump as Mr. Ajay Raghuvanshi, vice president for sales, marketing and dealer development has given in his resignation for reasons unknown.

Mr. Raghuvanshi joined Nissan in March 2013 but has now decided the quit Nissan to “pursue other options”, and no further information has been provided by Nissan. Mr. Raghuvanshi is the man responsible for developing an independent sales and distribution network in India for the Japanese car major. Sources inside the company mentioned that he was more or less sidelined after Nissan brought in Mahindra’s long-serving veteran, Mr. Arun Malhotra late last year as the managing director to head its complete domestic unit.

Mr. Raghuvanshi has earlier worked with giants like Hyundai, Honda and Tata Motors had himself led to introduce Nissan’s low-cost brand Datsun in India in March 2014, by launching the GO hatchback. After Nissan had ended their ties with Hover Automotive India which was solely responsible for exclusively marketing, selling and distributing Nissan’s parts and vehicles in the country in February last year, Mr. Raghuvanshi played a major role in building Nissan’s marketing strategies for India. Nissan has a steep climb ahead for India with a market share of just 1.81% and is currently ranked only ninth in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
