TVS Racing, the motorsport division of TVS Motor Company announced its collaboration with French off-road motorcycle specialist Sherco earlier this year to participate in the very challenging Dakar Rally 2015. Christened as the Sherco TVS Rally Factory Team, the companies put in their synergies to develop the RTR 450 off-road motorcycle making it a learning opportunity for both manufacturers involved. Learning from the first season, TVS has imported the Sherco Enduro 450 for R&D and evaluation purpose that is likely to be used as the donor model for next year’s Dakar rally racer.

The 2015 Sherco Enduro 450 SER uses a 449.4cc 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC engine with fuel injection and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike offers an overwhelming power-to-weight ratio of 109 kgs and uses Sachs telescopic forks at the front with 300 mm of travel and multi-adjustable shocks at the rear with 320 mm of travel. Braking performance comes from Brembo with a 260 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at the rear.

The 2015 Dakar Rally saw its two racers Allan Duclos and Fabian Planet finish 14th and 25th consistently at the end of the 20 day race that was divided into 13 stages and covered a total distance of 9000 kms. For this year’s Dakar rally, the race spec RTR 450 received upgrades like an Akrapovic exhaust, upgraded cockpit that displayed everything from the route to the weather conditions, LED headlamps, aluminium rim steel spoke tyres and hydraulic Brembo brakes. The next year’s model will get a host of improvements with learnings from this year’s rally.
