The Crosswind MPV is essentially the Chevrolet Tavera underneath albeit with a tinkered front fascia and will get certain upgrades in its Isuzu avatar.

The Crosswind will be manufactured at Isuzu’s upcoming facility in Andhra Pradesh

One of the popular names in utility vehicles internationally, Isuzu is yet to make its mark in the Indian market but is slowly but steadily expanding its presence across the country before operations move into full swing. While there were reports earlier of the automaker launching the MU-X premium SUV in the country to rival the Toyota Fortuner, a recent report suggests that Isuzu is also planning to launch the Crosswind people carrier in India that will compete with the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Innova, newly launched Renault Lodgy and the likes in the segment.

The Isuzu Crosswind though is essentially the Chevrolet Tavera that has been on sale in India for around a decade now. For the India spec Crosswind, reports suggest that the MPV will get 15-inch alloy wheels, aluminium black side step board, body coloured bumpers and a new ‘Isuzu’ family silver grille. On the inside, the 2015 Crosswind will be available in 7 and 8-seater configurations and will get an LCD display system with USB along with spoiler integrated reverse camera, reverse parking sensors and an anti-theft alarm, but comes with an overall dated interior layout.

In terms of power, the Isuzu Crosswind will employ the 2.5-litre diesel motor tuned to produce 85 PS of power, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The automaker has stated that the suspension on the MPV has been tuned for better occupant comfort for its users as per Indian conditions. The company will be offering the model in three colours namely Hunter Green and Dark Silver, Cosmic Black, Garnet Red, and Splash White.

When launched in India, the Chevrolet Tavera managed to do robust sales figures initially but in the more recent years, sales have taken a downward route but the MPV still manages to do a little over 1000 units every month (which is extremely better than the Enjoy’s sales). It will be interesting to see how the customers perceive the Crosswind as it will be sold alongside the Tavera in the market along with the host of new offerings that are currently doing well.
