The 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be unveiled by the end of this year

An extremely capable SUV, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport does not garner the sales it deserves in the country solely due to the parent company’s lacklustre attitude towards its Indian operations. Nonetheless, being the popular offering it is overseas, Mitsubishi has commenced development of the next generation Pajero Sport and the premium SUV was recently caught testing with heavy camouflage ahead of its launch expected by the end of this year.

Based on the recently revealed Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck, spy shots suggest that the 2017 Pajero Sport maintains the butch profile but seems to have grown in dimensions sporting a larger rear overhang that will allow for a roomier cabin and more space for the third row. The front fascia gets a sleek appearance along the lines of the 2016 Outlander and will also be equipped with LED DRLs integrated headlights and LED tail lamps.

In terms of power, the existing engines will continue to propel the 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport with the 2.4-litre turbo diesel available in two states of tune – 154 PS and 380 Nm of torque as well as 181 PS and 430 Nm of torque. One can expect the Indian version to make its debut in 2017 and come with a host of upgrades on the inside. The current India spec Pajero Sport comes with a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 178 PS and 350 Nm of torque that could be carried over on the new model.

While the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be receiving a slew of updates, the competition isn’t far behind either as the popular Toyota Fortuner is due for a generation change by the end of this year and the 2016 Ford Endeavour has already gone on sale in South East Asia and will make its debut in the Indian market in the last quarter of 2015.
