Tata Motors will be introducing 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options on the production spec Hexa that will be launched in the country next year.
Developed under Cyrus Mistry’s (Chairman Tata Group) personal eye, the Tata Hexa concept made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and is the next generation Aria, replacing the dud seller in the country in 2016. While the concept has already garnered positive feedback for the appealing new design language, a recent report now states that the Hexa will come equipped with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options in its production ready avatar when it goes on sale next year.
The 2016 Tata Hexa will be powered by the same 2.2-litre VariCOR turbo diesel engine from the current Aria, but tuned to produce 154 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque. The Hexa will be the first of all Tata cars to get a 6-speed transmission with the company currently offering all its models with either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmissions. In addition, the Hexa crossover will also get torque-on-demand four-wheel drive system while the report contemplates of the 2.2-litre engine being upgraded to produce 175 BHP of power for certain variants.
Despite the striking resemblance with the Aria, the new Tata Hexa is an all-new car and has been developed with an appreciable design language and will retain most of the design traits from the concept. The crossover gets a sculpted and bold front fascia while the side profile features accentuated wheel arches. Like Tata’s new range of models, the Hexa will also come with a plethora of features including the Harman infotainment system, navigation, climate control, EPA steering as well as Tata’s iteration of Land Rover’s All-Terrain Response system.
At present, Tata Motors is lining up to launch the new GenX Nano in the following weeks after which the Kite (codename) or Glade (as it might be called) will hit the market later this year. For 2016, Tata will bring the Nexon compact SUV to the market while the Hexa is likely to come in the second half of 2016. Learning from its mistakes on the Aria, the Indian automaker has commenced work on a positive note and it seems the new generation might finally bring the needed success in the segment.
