Hyosung GD250N Showcase
The GD250N will be the launched by October this year and could be locally made

While Benelli has been the more celebrated partner for DSK in recent months, its South Korean partner Hyosung plans to make a come back from the sabbatical and is working to introduce several new products in the second half of the year. As per a recent report online, Hyosung will be revamping its entire existing lineup over the next two years and will be showing off a slew of new models at the EICMA Motorcycle Show this November in Milan, giving the manufacturer a new start.

Starting with the new launches, the Hyosung GD250N that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and is yet to be launched, will finally arrive in October this year. Given the highly competitive segment it will be entering in, the possibility is the GD250N street-fighter could be produced in the country with locally sourced components in order to keep the costs in check. The option of CKD assembly is also open. In addition to the GD250N, the full faired GD250R will also be joining the quarter-litre lineup later this year to take on the KTM 200 twins.

Up next for launch is a new 300cc cruiser that will come a little after the GD models hit the showrooms. This 300cc cruiser will most likely be the Aquila GV300R which is scheduled to replace the GV250 globally. Sporting a 300cc V-Twin motor under the belly, the motor will get liquid-cooling belting out around 30 PS of power and 25 Nm of torque. Furthermore, Hyosung is working on a new 650cc twin-cylinder engine that will be powering the next generation GT650R and GT650N motorcycles. The new engine is said to be smoother, more powerful and a lot more reliable than the current units. There is also expected to be a new chassis underpinning a lot of these new models, and Hyosung has certainly shown its capabilities with the GD250N.

Lastly, DSK-Hyosung is expected to have its Indian manufacturing facility ready by August 2016. While the GD250N will continue to be produced at the company’s existing plant, the new manufacturing unit will produce the revamped models starting from next year. Meanwhile, DSK will work on sourcing more local components for its motorcycles and will help its bikes get a more competitive pricing. After several management changes that hindered product development, the arrival of S&T Motors has certainly worked in Hyosung’s favour as the company is finally ready to move forward. This year’s EICMA will be extremely important for the Korean brand as it will reveal several new products that are to set its course for India. A clearer idea of Hyosung’s plans will be available in another 3-4 months’ time.
