Honda India has no plans to bring in the Civic in India at present and is concentrating on launching the new generation Jazz followed by the Accord next year.

Despite being a successful product for Honda India, the Civic could not survive beyond a single generation in the market given the rising petrol prices and the affinity towards SUVs in the same space. Thus, the Japanese manufacturer chose not to bring the new generation Civic in the country post its international launch. Now, the ninth generation left-hand drive European Civic hatchback has been caught on the outskirts of Honda’s Tapukara facility and is most likely the same model that was brought in the country last year for R&D testing as per import records.

Honda India has no plans to launch the new generation Civic in the country at present. The European spec Civic was imported into the country in diesel guise and is here for global testing purposes. Powering the 2015 Civic are three engine options including the 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre petrol as well as the 1.6-litre diesel unit. The car gets aggressively styled taking cues from the Type R while the high mounted tail lights are unique to the hatch. Even if Honda does consider bringing the Civic to India again, it will be in the sedan body style and not the hatchback.

For the remainder of 2015, Honda is gearing up to launch the new generation Jazz in the country this July and promotions for the same have commenced in full swing. Another one of Honda’s good products that failed to make a mark the first time round, the Jazz will be extensively localised along with a diesel option under the hood and will rival the Hyundai Elite i20 in the segment. In addition to the Jazz, the automaker plans to introduce the Accord in India once again at the 2016 Auto Expo while a compact SUV is also on the cards.
