Maruti Suzuki will soon be launching the diesel-powered Celerio in India and dealer dispatches will be starting this month.

Suzuki Celerio 2014
The diesel Celerio will be India’s most fuel efficient car

Maruti Suzuki has been the choice of most Indian families when it comes to cars. The widespread network and the trust factor built over the years gives buyers a lot of confidence. The fact that they have some of the most affordable hatchbacks in the country only adds to the brand’s popularity. Having got the pulse of the market, the Japanese automaker has understood the need for an affordable diesel hatchback with high fuel efficiency. Celerio is the car chosen by Maruti for the same.

The Celerio has been a good launch for the company and it has grabbed a lot of attention due to the addition of AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) which made it the most affordable automatic hatchback in the country. To add some more sales numbers, Celerio will soon be getting a diesel engine. Powering the car will be a 793cc, twin-cylinder engine producing between 45-50 PS of power and delivering an astonishing mileage of close to 30 km/l which will make it India’s most fuel efficient car. The same engine would also power the upcoming LCV codenamed the Y9T.

Dealer dispatches of the Celerio diesel will be started by Maruti Suzuki this month which hints at a launch date within this month or the first week of June. Owing to the huge demand the car would possibly generate, we believe dealers would want to have enough cars in their stockyards in order to keep the waiting period low. At an estimated price of Rs. 4.55 – 5.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), one would expect it to sell like hot cakes. They will also be introducing a no frills diesel Celerio for the taxi market to tap the demand in that segment. An AMT equipped variant is also on the cards and might be launched at a later date.
