The AMT unit will only add to the DZire’s sales

Nowadays the automatic manual transmission (AMT) unit is one of the main contributing factors when buyers are deciding to purchase a new car in India. Such is the success of the automatic variants that more than half the sales of the Maruti Celerio, for example, comes through this variant only. The demand for vehicles with an automatic gearbox is only increasing day-by-day because driving in congested city traffic becomes all the more easier, thanks to the same. Therefore, it seems that Maruti has decided to equip the Swift DZire with the AMT unit as well.

Recent spy shots reveal a dark brown DZire undergoing test runs near the company’s plant in Manesar, Haryana. Thinking about it, it is not a bad move. Maruti has rather taken a very clever decision by plonking the AMT unit into the best selling compact sedan in the country. The DZire spied was the top-of-the-line ZDi (diesel) variant which comes fitted with ABS and airbags.

The company had earlier revealed that the automatic gearbox will be made available in other models from the stable. After catching the Dzire undisguised and in production ready form, it ain’t hard to conclude that the next Maruti Suzuki cars to feature the AMT will be the WagonR and the Swift DZire. Addition of this transmission will make the DZire AMT cost about Rs. 35,000-40,000/- more than the manual counterpart when launched.

Maruti Suzuki has implemented an amazing marketing strategy because the automatic gearbox will only increase the sales of the already successful compact sedan in India. The company might even offer the AMT on the Swift, Ertiga and Ciaz, post the launch of the WagonR and Swift DZire automatic models.
