The Suzuki DR200 and Honda XR250 Tornado are popular dual-sport motorcycles in Colombia and could have been brought in privately by an Indian two-wheeler maker.
As per the recent import-export data, the Suzuki DR200 and Honda XR250 Tornado dual-sport motorcycles have been imported in the country. Since the respective manufacturers haven’t imported the bikes, the dual-sport units have been likely brought by a third manufacturer for possibly benchmarking purposes. It is still unclear though as to which manufacturer has imported the bikes in the country that were imported from Colombia to Delhi, with the latter being the headquarters for almost every mainstream Indian two-wheeler manufacturer including Honda, Hero MotoCorp, Yamaha and Suzuki.
The Suzuki DR200 is an entry-level dual-sport motorcycle that the Japanese manufacturer sells globally. In the Colombian spec version, power on the DR200 comes from a 199cc 4-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produce 15 HP and 17 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The bike comes with a light kerb weight of 126 kgs, giving a good power-to-weight ratio to play around with. The Honda XR250 Tornado, on the other hand, uses a 249cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder engine with 23 HP and 23.8 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Given the bigger motor, the bike comes with a kerb weight of 134 kgs.
Hero has been working on a slew of products and concepts in recent times and it won’t be surprising to see the automaker venture in the dual-sport segment as well. The manufacturer’s first dual-sport offering the Impulse couldn’t meet expectations and Hero could be possibly working on a more powerful version or an all-new model, which could be introduced in the future. While everything remains a speculation at present, Hero could possibly showcase a dual-sport motorcycle at the 2016 Auto Expo for all we know.
