The Super Carry will be drawing power from a 792cc twin-cylinder diesel engine that made its debut on the Celerio, but is likely to be tuned for better load carrying capabilities.
Making a comeback to the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment after decades, Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Y9T (codename) LCV in the country and is aiming to meet the same kind of success as it does in the passenger vehicle space. The automaker has been testing the Y9T for over a year now and these new spy shots emerged online finally showcase the vehicle in its production ready form with all the badges. The images also reveal the production name on the Y9T, which will officially be called ‘Super Carry’ when launched later this year.
Flat body panels all over, the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry makes do with a black bumper at the front and black plastic grille in the centre. The squared headlights are basic and the overall profile does look a tad bit similar to the outgoing Omni van. In terms of engine options, Maruti will be using a new 792cc twin-cylinder diesel engine on the Super Carry that is expected to churn out around 45 BHP and 125 Nm of torque. This motor made its debut on the Celerio earlier this year and is regarded as extremely fuel efficient, a trait we will see on the Super Carry as well.
In addition, Maruti will also introduce the 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Eeco with a CNG variant that is said to produce around 35-40 BHP of power and will provide a combined fuel efficiency figure of around 35 km/l. The LCV segment is a highly contested space and almost every mainstream commercial Indian manufacturer has presence in the same. Competing against the Maruti Super Carry will be a load of options in the market including the Tata Ace, Eicher Polaris Multix and the newly launched Mahindra Jeeto. Expect prices to start at around Rs. 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
