2016 Toyota Fortuner Side Spied
The new Fortuner will be offered with 1 petrol and 2 diesel engines in Thailand

As we all know well by now that the next generation Toyota Fortuner will look and drive nothing like the outgoing model, only visual descriptions of the best selling premium SUV in our country have been obtained till now. However, for the first time details regarding the 2016 Fortuner’s variants, engine options and features have been revealed by the same Thailand website that made the side profile picture of the SUV that you can see above. Toyota will most likely be offering the 2016 Fortuner with not only a diesel engine, but a petrol unit in Thailand as well.

Expected to be offered in as many as five different variants – 2.4G 4×2 6MT, 2.4V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×2 6AT, 2.8V 4×4 6AT and 2.7V 4×2 6AT, the first four are diesel models, while the last is a petrol. The two GD series diesel engines including the 2.4-litre which produces 160 HP and 400 Nm of torque and the 2.8-litre unit which churns out 177 HP and 450 Nm of torque will be offered. The sole petrol engine on offer is a 2.7-litre VVT-i, four-cylinder unit that delivers 122 HP and 245 Nm of torque. Only the more powerful diesel engine (2.8-litre engine) will get four-wheel drive, while all variants will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard features that are expected on the upcoming Toyota Fortuner include 18-inch alloy wheels, Smart Key System with keyless entry, engine start/stop button, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist (BA), Hill Assist Control (HAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control System (TCS), 7 airbags including knee airbag, emergency light system and the likes. The dashboard design of the SUV will not be similar to the Hilux, on which the new Fortuner is based. When launched in India next year, the 2016 Fortuner will not get the petrol engine and will only be powered by the two other diesel units instead. Most of the aforementioned features are expected to be offered in our country as well, but it remains to be seen whether many of them will come as standard or not.
