Ford plans to export 2.2 lakh units from India by 2020

Ford will be targeting to export 2.2 lakh cars from India by 2020 which will be half of the total production capacity in the country by that time. It will be mainly exporting its cars to markets like Europe, the Middle-East and Africa. The cars to be exported will belong to the global B-platform which consists of compacts, mini sedans and small SUVs. The company has been recently designing products that will suit both domestic and international tastes like the EcoSport which is sold in Brazil, Australia and Europe alongside India. Ford wants to target an even larger set of countries that will help them increase production, benefit from economies of scale and bring down its production costs.

Ford India will achieve a production capacity of 4.4 lakh vehicles by 2020, and of this, half of the cars will be sold overseas thereby benefitting from India’s low cost manufacturing. Few days back, Hyundai India also announced its plan to export the newly launched Creta SUV to markets like the Middle-East, Africa and Latin America. All these steps by car manufacturers in India is completely in favour of PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign and is a sign of good things to come for the Indian economy.

Ford India is currently gearing up for the launch of its first sub 4-metre compact sedan, the Figo Aspire. The Aspire will be entering a fierce segment which is dominated by the likes of the Maruti Suzuki DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest. The Swift DZire is the segment leader with sales upwards of 16,000 units a month. Ford plans to give the Japanese car a tough time by launching the Aspire at an aggressive starting price and offer certain segment first features like six airbags, leather seats and the Ford SYNC system as standard on the top variants. The Ford Figo Aspire will be launched around the middle of this month.
