The Swift hybrid diesel will churn out 30 km/l of fuel efficiency

Maruti Suzuki is a very successful automaker in India and no one can ever deny this fact. The company is also popular for its limited edition models and mileage. The automaker is all geared up to launch the Ciaz SHVS next week. The Ciaz SHVS is basically a hybrid version of the Ciaz diesel and it will apparently come with a fuel efficiency figure of 28 km/l, thus making it the most fuel efficient car in India. Now it has been learnt that the company is keen to introduce this SHVS system to other vehicles from its stable too.

The Maruti Ciaz SHVS comes with the same 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine that belts out 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that also powers other Maruti cars like the Swift, DZire, Ertiga and S-Cross. The automaker will be introducing the Ertiga SHVS in October 2015 while the Swift and DZire diesel variants will also get the SHVS tech. However, the hybrid versions of the hatchback and compact sedan will be rolled out only in 2017, when their new generation comes out. The current Swift and DZire will not get the hybrid tech. When launched, these vehicles will produce even better fuel efficiency than the Ciaz at 30 km/l.

The SHVS system comes with a large capacity battery, integrated starter generator and start-stop technology that work in tandem to improve the vehicle’s mileage. The system offers power assistance to the engine when required, with the help of the motor and achieves power regeneration. When the car comes to a halt at a traffic signal, the system stops the engine and then starts it again when the clutch is released. The SHVS tech is fully imported but gets a subsidy of around Rs. 13,000/- thanks to the FAME scheme by the government and a lower excise duty of 12.5%.
