16 units of the Yamaha R3 have been recalled in the United States due to a faulty upper triple clamp. The bikes will also get a new fuel filler cap and steering lock.

2015 Yamaha R3 Test Ride Review
It is unclear whether bikes in other countries have also been affected or not

The Yamaha R3 was recently launched in the market and now the bike has already faced its first recall. While we always see car or bike companies recalling hundreds and thousands of units for faulty parts, Yamaha is recalling only 16 units of the R3. Yes, you heard it right, only 16. The affected bikes have been diagnosed with with a faulty upper triple camp and there is a possibility of this clamp cracking under certain riding conditions.

If the upper triple clamp cracks, then the rider may lose steering control of the bike and may face a crash. Hence, Yamaha has identified 16 such bikes and the company has asked its dealers to contact their customers and let them know about the recall. The main switch of the bike is also installed in the upper triple clamp and hence Yamaha will also replace the lock sets on all the bikes since the new clamp will come with a new lock and the original keys will not work anymore.

The recall will take care of the replacement of the upper triple clamp, steering lock, main switch and fuel filler cap. While only 16 bikes have been affected in the US, it is not clear whether this issue has also affected bikes in other markets or not. The bike is available in India too and owners might get worried after reading about this. It will be appreciated if Yamaha quickly assesses whether any other bikes have been affected by this issue or not.

The Yamaha R3 is powered by a 321cc twin-cylinder, 8-valve, liquid-cooled engine that pumps out 42 PS of power at 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and the bike competes with the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and KTM RC 390. The motorbike is priced at Rs. 3.90 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) but it offers a nice blend of design, performance and comfort.
