The Mahindra Genio is based on the Ingenio platform shared with the Xylo and gets a heavily redesigned front fascia and possibly upgrades to the mechanicals as well.

The new grille reminds us of the one found on Maruti’s XA Alpha concept

Based on the Ingenio platform that underpins the Xylo and Quanto in the company’s lineup, Mahindra launched the Genio pickup earlier this decade but the model has fairly aged over the years. However, the Indian auto giant has been working on a facelifted version which was recently caught completely undisguised, showing off its heavily redesigned front fascia.

The 2015 Mahindra Genio facelift gets an all new grille lending an upmarket look to the pickup. The silver finished unit is completely different from the ones seen on Mahindra’s existing models and is reminiscent of the one seen on the Maruti XA Alpha concept. You also get re-profiled headlights that are upright now and a contoured bonnet with a bulge for a more car-like appearance. Also new is the revised front bumper with larger air intakes and circular fog lamp enclosures.

Clearly, Mahindra has thought out of the box in styling the Genio facelift and it will be interesting to see if the same is extended to the upcoming Quanto facelift or future versions of the Xylo. Inside the cabin, the basic layout is expected to be retained but with mild upgrades. The outgoing Mahindra Genio is powered by a 2.5-litre mDI CRDe diesel engine tuned to produce 75 HP and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed gearbox.

The oil burner will continue to power the facelifted Mahindra Genio as well but tweaks for improved fuel efficiency and power delivery are expected. Prices for the current model start at Rs. 6.15 lakhs for the BS4 version, going up to Rs. 6.43 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom Mumbai). The automaker also offers in-house customisation options for customers with the cargo bay converted into a box-on-chassis ambulance or a vestibular ambulance or a freezer van.
